Maine PFML: What Employers Need to Know for Q2 Wage Reporting

Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program is officially underway, and employers across the state are now responsible for ongoing reporting and compliance requirements. While PFML benefits won’t begin until May 2026, the state is already collecting quarterly wage data and premium payments through the Maine Paid Leave Contributions Portal.

As we move into the second quarter filing period, here’s what employers need to know:

Maine PFML Q2 Wage Reporting Overview

  • Reporting Deadline: July 31, 2025
  • Reporting Period: Wages paid from April 1 through June 30, 2025
  • Who Must Report: All Maine employers, regardless of size or whether contributions are being made to the state
  • Private Plan Reminder: Employers approved for a private plan exemption are still required to submit quarterly wage reports
  • Penalties: While Q1 penalties were waived, the Maine Department of Labor has confirmed that Q2 penalties will be enforced
  • How to File: Submit reports through the Maine Paid Leave Contributions Portal
  • Payroll Vendors: Even if your payroll provider submits the report, employers must register directly on the PFML portal
